Invoicing Tools for Spiritual Practitioners

Zoho, Wave, FreshBooks, Stripe Invoicing - 2026 pricing compared for tarot readers and astrologers. Table, real costs, which to pick.

Zoho Invoice has been completely free since 2022 - unlimited invoices, unlimited clients, multi-currency, time tracking, and a client portal. For invoicing tools for spiritual practitioners sending under 20 invoices a month, that changes the cost comparison dramatically. The question isn't which free tool to use; it's whether your workflow actually needs something Zoho doesn't offer.

Zoho Invoice

Zoho made the product permanently free in 2022 as what they described as "a gesture to the small business community." There are no ads, no feature caps on invoices or clients, and no usage ceiling stated.

What's included for free: unlimited invoices, unlimited clients, recurring billing, expense tracking, time tracking, multi-currency support, a client portal, and payment integrations with Stripe, PayPal, and Square. For a tarot reader or astrologer running a solo practice, this covers the full billing workflow.

The only honest caveat: Zoho is a large SaaS company with a broad product suite. The free invoice product works as a client acquisition strategy. That's not a problem for users - it just explains the pricing model.

Wave

Wave's free plan includes manual bank import via CSV upload, unlimited invoices, and unlimited clients. The free tier does not include automatic bank sync - that requires the Pro plan.

- Free: Bookkeeping, unlimited invoices, manual bank import
- Pro: $19/month - adds automatic bank sync via Plaid, OCR receipt scanning, auto-categorization

Payment processing fees apply on all plans: credit card ~2.9% + $0.60 per transaction; bank transfer (ACH) ~1% with a $1 minimum.

The $0.60 flat fee is higher than many competitors. On a $30 email reading paid by card, Wave's processing takes about $1.47 - versus Stripe's $1.17 on a comparable transaction. Meaningful at volume.

FreshBooks

FreshBooks is the strongest option if time tracking matters to you. The built-in timer logs hours by client and project, then converts them to invoice line items with one click. For practitioners who charge by the hour for coaching calls or astrology consultations, that workflow is genuinely useful.

- Lite: $23/month (annual) - 5 billable clients, invoicing, time tracking, expense tracking
- Plus: $33/month (annual) - 50 clients, recurring billing, client retainers, double-entry accounting
- Premium: $60/month (annual) - unlimited clients, project profitability reports

Note: some sources cite the Lite plan at $19/month rather than $23/month. Pricing has shifted recently - verify directly at freshbooks.com before committing.

Stripe Invoicing

Stripe Invoicing is not a standalone product. It's a bolt-on to an existing Stripe payments account, which means you're already inside Stripe's ecosystem before this matters.

- Invoicing Starter: 0.4% per paid invoice, capped at $2 - on top of Stripe's standard 2.9% + $0.30 processing fee
- Invoicing Plus: 0.5% per paid invoice, capped at $2

The cap at $2 means a $500 reading incurs $2 for invoicing (not $2.50), which is reasonable. But Stripe Invoicing lacks time tracking, estimate-to-invoice workflow, and anything resembling a client management layer. It's built for developers and SaaS billing, not service freelancers.

Worth it if: You already use Stripe for payments and need a quick way to send invoices without switching tools.

QuickBooks Online

QuickBooks Simple Start at $35/month is the cheapest tier - already $12/month more than FreshBooks Lite and $35 more than Zoho. The reason to consider it: US tax prep integration. If you're doing your own bookkeeping for Schedule C and want one system that feeds a US accountant's workflow, QuickBooks is what most US accountants expect.

For invoicing alone it's overkill. For solo practitioners who also want basic accounting, it competes with FreshBooks Plus at $33/month.

Which to Choose

Solo practitioner, under 20 invoices/month: Zoho Invoice. It's free, it has time tracking and multi-currency, and there's no functional reason to pay for anything else at this volume.

Need automatic bank sync + simple receipts: Wave Pro at $19/month. The free tier is enough for invoicing; Pro is about bookkeeping automation.

Bill hourly, track time per client: FreshBooks Lite at $23/month. The time-to-invoice workflow is the differentiator.

Already on Stripe and want invoicing added: Stripe Invoicing Starter. The 0.4% fee capped at $2 adds minimal cost on top of what you're already paying.
